1st DAY – ARRIVE TO AREQUIPA AND CITY TOUR

City tour & Santa Catalina
In the afternoon, approx. 14:00 to 14:30hs, you will be picked up from your hotel in Arequipa by our local guide. Then, we head to the center of the city where we will start an interesting tour. Our first stop is at one of the most impressive architectural monuments of the city, it is the magnificent Monastery of Santa Catalina, a miniature city that housed the nuns Arequipa for over 400 years. Later we pass the beautiful Plaza de Armas, beautifully surrounded by beautiful colonial arches and visit the beautiful Cathedral of Arequipa, which will enter our local guide for assessing her impressive works of art, as well as its imposing structure. Finally we will continue to the traditional towns Yanahuara and Carmen Alto, where you will enjoy with this point view where you can see the volcano and the field surrounding

2nd DAY – COLCA CANYON TOUR WITH OVERNIGHT

The guide will pick you up from your hotel, we will depart at 07:00 and 07:30am from Arequipa, crossing 160km from the town of Chivay, capital of the province of Caylloma. At the beginning of our excursion we will enjoy the majestic views of the Misti, Chachani and Pichu Pichu volcanoes and then approach the National Reserve of “Pampa Cañahuas”, where our transportation will make a short stop to observe the wild Vicuñas (the most important American camel) in its natural habitat. Athis point we will be arount 3400 meters above sea level.
We will arrive to “Pata Wasi” (Pata=hight Wasi=home) an Andean community at the opposite border of the reserve. Here you might enjoy the natural formation of rocks and the view to the backside of the Misti and Chachani volcanoes. To prevent altitude sickness we will have an original Andean “Mate de Coca” drink in Sumbay at 3800 meters above sea level. Continuing on the road we will pass through “Tocra” pver the 4500 meter high mountains, where we will observe lakes with migrant birds and get pictures of the “Antiplano” (high plains) with its Llamas and Guanacos. Our highest point be “Pata Pampa” (Pata=hight, Pampa=land) located at 4820 meters, where we´ll observe the volcanoes Ampato, Sabancaya, Hualca-Hualca, Mismi (the source of the Amazon River), and the “Cordillera de Chila”. When we are getting close to the town of Chivay (3651 meters) we will start to wonder at the spectacular multicolor view of the terraces of the Colca valley. In Chivay we will drive to our hotel and after occupying our rooms we will have time for lunch.
About 3:30pm we will drive to the real Indian Town of Coporaque, where we will visit its traditional main square
OPTIONAL: you can go on an hike to the hill of the San Antonio ruins, where we will visit a cemetery and have a wonderful view to the terraces of the Canyon (the hike takes about 1 ½ hours). We´ll return to our hotel and take our towels to enjoy the warm waters of “La Calera”, natural hot springs where we will have a spectacular sunset surrounded by the mountains. Return to Hotel.
Overnight at the hotel – Chivay town
3rd DAY – CRUZ DEL CONDOR POINT VIEW AND RETURN TO AREQUIPA CITY
We will have our breakafast very early in the morning (abouot 6:00am), so we can leave to the famous “Cruz del Condor” point as early as possible. We´ll arrive to “Cruz del Condor” at 08:00am approximately. After taking pictures of the majestic flight of the Condors, our guide will take you for a short walk near the Canyon (1hour). We will return to our transportation and drive back to Chivay, visiting on the route the traditional town of Pinchollo and the “Antahuilque view point”, where a wonderful 1500 year old terracing constructed by the Collaguas culture well before the Incas time can be observed. Also we will make a stop at the lokk-out point of “Choquetico” with its “Tumbas colgantes” (hanging tombs), and take a look to the litomaqueta, model of the canyon terraces carved in a rock.
We will continue visiting the town of Maca, and Andean community that experienced an earthquake in November of 1991 and the town of Yanque with the most beautiful church in the valley. We´ll return to Chivay town to have lunch at a local restaurant.
Return to Arequipa city, arriving at 17:30hs approx.

4th DAY – TRANSFER OUT FROM AREQUIPA
